Sarah Barnett, b. about 1790, South Carolina, d. after 1850

Sarah Barnett (James 1) was born about 1788-1790 in South Carolina[1] and died after 1850.[2]

Sarah married David Osborn on 28 Jan 1805 in Livingston Co., Kentucky.[3] David was born between 1756 and 1774 in South Carolina and died about 1829 in Kentucky.[4]

David appeared as head of household in the Laurens District, South Carolina in the 1800 U.S. census[5] but he was in Caldwell Co., Kentucky by 1810 when he was appointed to work on a road crew.[6]  By 1815 he was serving as a Caldwell County Justice of the Peace.[7] On 16 Oct 1815 David purchased 40 acres on Hurricane Creek from Jesse Birdsong for $160[8] and on 24 Oct 1816 David and Sally Osborn sold 30 acres on Hurricane Creek for $500 to Isham E. Osborn.[9] David paid Caldwell County taxes on 100 acres on Crooked Creek in 1820, 1823 and 1824.[10] On 29 Mar 1825 the Osborns sold 71 acres on Hurricane Creek for $300 to Benjamin I. Gilman.[11] Later that year he was named along with his wife in a lawsuit by Jeremiah Rucker against the heirs of James Barnett.[12] No record of his death has been found, but his wife, Sally, appeared as head of household in the 1830 U.S. census, suggesting that he died between 1825 and 1830.[13] Included in the household were two minor males and three minor females.[14] In 1850 Sarah Osborn (age 55, born South Carolina) was listed in the census in the household of her son Charles E. Osborn in Caldwell Co., Kentucky.[15] In December of 1850, Charles Erbey and his family moved to Johnson Co., Illinois; it is not known if Sarah went with them or stayed behind in Kentucky and to date no record of her death has been found.[16]

David and Sarah (Barnett) Osborn were the parents of at least five children:

  1. Susan Osborn, b. between 1811-1815
  2. Bartholomew Osborn, b. between 1811-1815
  3. Charles Erbey Osborn, b. 1816, d. after 1870
  4. Daughter, b. between 1821-1825
  5. Mary Osborn, b. about 1826

Sarah next married Stephen Roach on 29 Jun 1833 in Caldwell Co., Kentucky.[1] No other information on this marriage has been found, but by 1850 Sarah Osborn was living with her son Charles E. Osborn.[2]
